The Live in Peace Bike Shop was built on the understanding that most young people thrive in project-based learning, even when they are not successful in traditional academic settings.

The bike shop is here to serve the East Palo Alto community, and more importantly, our youth. Some days we may close early or open late to accommodate our youth programming. Check out our Instagram for updates on potential time changes, @lipbikeshop and also our page on Facebook.

We offer affordable bike repair, tune-ups and flat fixes, sell new and used bike accessories and parts, have a good selection of tires and tubes, and have refurbished and AS-IS bikes for sale.

The Bike Shop is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 10:00 am-5:00 pm, closed Wednesdays, and Friday-Saturday from 10:00 am-4:00 pm. We try to keep our hours accurate on Google Maps and Yelp.

We designed the Bike Shop to remind young people of their incredibly creative, and intuitively intelligent selves, while we meet the bicycle and transportation needs of our community. We provide a space for young people to learn and train to be bike mechanics; provide free and low-cost bikes to the community; and engage our community through riding clubs, community rides, and our bike racing team.

To date, we have a fully-equipped bike shop with both staff and equipment; we have given out over 300 bikes to our community, provided tens of thousands of dollars in free and subsidized bike repairs, and are training young people to be certified bike mechanics through our apprenticeship program.

Our Bike Shop Apprentice Program offers youth hands-on, project-based training to become skilled bicycle mechanics. Participants gain valuable trade skills, work alongside experienced mentors, and have the opportunity to advance into paid positions—often securing their very first job and building a foundation for future success. Donate Your Bike and Bike Parts

Bay Area cyclists! Donate your bike, bike parts and accessories to Live in Peace! Your donations are what power our organization, provide our youth with learning opportunities to work on different types of bikes, help our kids ride quality equipment they normally can’t afford, and provide essential transportation to those in need in our community. Our tax ID # is 45-2301493 and bikes and monetary donations are tax deductible.

What Donations Does Live in Peace Bike Shop Accept?

We’ll take most bikes that are not completely rusty (a rusty chain is okay) and did not originate from a department store (Target or Walmart, as these types of bikes use too much mechanic time and parts). We can especially use nice road, gravel/cyclocross and mountain bikes, as they can help ensure our enthusiastic youth have nice bikes to ride on our outings, and our apprentice mechanics are experienced in modern technology.

We’ll also accept bike parts and accessories that plenty of life left. We can always use new or like-new bike components of all types, along with new inner tubes and tires with lots of life left.

Of course, we’d be thrilled for financial support. You can make a donation in any amount to our bike programs. You can often double your donation with an employer match!

When to Donate Your Bike or Bicycle Parts:

You can drop off bikes and bike parts during our open shop hours, typically five days a week. If you have a large, valuable donation, please email us pictures and we’ll see if we can arrange a pickup!

You can also donate your bike at our growing list of satellite donation drop-off centers at local bike shops, including weekend hours. They’ll issue you a tax donation receipt on the spot!

Can I get a tax-deductible receipt for my bike or equipment donation?

Of course! We’ll email you an electronic receipt on the spot for your donation.

Where to Donate Your Bicycle or Parts:

The Live in Peace nonprofit bike shop is at 2524 Pulgas Ave in East Palo Alto (map here), just a few pedal strokes from the beautiful Bay Trail! Our shop faces the back of the building, so turn down off Pulgas on the side of our building, and we’re at the back. You may park just past our front door to unload.

We are changing the narrative through community rides, bike rodeos, our newly-created bike club, and our bike racing team, while serving both youth, young adults, and additionally community members. Together we are getting healthy, fit, and lowering our carbon footprint.

We provide a space for young people to learn and train to be certified bike mechanics, allowing them to have a source of income as well as mentorship, skill building, and healthy relationship building with other students and mentors in the program.

Our apprentice mechanics have gone on to work at other shops including REI and Silicon Valley Bicycle Exchange, and graduates of our program now manage the bulk of our repairs. We also have an enthusiastic group of racers, and have taken our team to local cyclocross, mountain bike and track (velodrome) races.

We also welcome volunteers of all abilities to come help work on bikes while building and sharing mechanic skills. We’ve got dedicated volunteer days twice a month on Mondays, and experienced mechanics can volunteer on other days we’re open.
