The Big Bike Swap - 2024

2024 Big Bike Swap on August 18th in Palo Alto.

Live in Peace, with Ritchey Design and Haley Cycles, are bringing you the biggest and best bike swap of 2024 and for years to come.

This event will be hosted by and benefit Live in Peace and its amazing bike shop and programs.

Combining their bike swaps from years past, Andrew Yee and Fergus Tanaka (at BikeX and Ritchey) and with the support of bike industry vet Ming Tan of Haley Cycles, will be hosting a huge bike swap on August 18th, Sunday, from 9am-2pm.

It’ll be at 1900 University Avenue, East Palo Alto, just off 101. (Note, “University Circle” and “Palo Alto” will still get you to the same spot on Google Maps)

We’ll have real bathrooms, a food truck, and plenty of space to spread out and hang with your bike buddies.

Reserve your seller’s spot here (SOLD OUT).

Buyers, $5 cash at the door. Exact change sure helps everyone!

Stay tuned for more details. Follow Live in Peace Bike Shop on Instagram and on Facebook to stay up to date with the bike swap.

Our 2024 Bike Swap was an amazing success. Come to our swap in 2025!

Sellers: Here’s all you should need to know:

We're excited to host you at University Circle in East Palo Alto on Sunday. Thanks for coming! This will likely be the most beautiful location for a bike swap, ever. Heck, it's next to a Four Seasons Hotel. We are lucky to have access to this space, and we're depending on you to take care of the location so we can make this an amazing, annual event.

Only registered sellers are getting this email. Sharing a spot with someone? Forward this email to them!

Here's what you need to know for Sunday:

  1. Arrival: Arrive between 7:30am and 8:30 am. We're at 1900 University Ave, East Palo Alto. "Palo Alto" and "University Circle" should both work and Google might use either of those too. It's right off 101. You'll turn off Woodland Ave into our driveway. Sellers will go straight into the circle, check in with a Live in Peace Bike Shop staff or volunteer with a seller name, and you'll get a rubber hand stamp and will be directed to your space. Your spot includes entry for two people. Anyone else will have to pay $5 cash to get in, exact change will make it quick. Any other seller sharing your space should provide your name. If you come late, the driveway will be closed off, and you'll have a longer walk with your stuff.

  2. Drop off: Park on the right side of the two-lane circle driveway near your seller spot, and drop off everything, then move your car. Park your car behind either of the two big buildings, and show your stamped hand when re-entering.

  3. Seller spots: Except for a few last-minute spots, they should all fit a 10x10 tent. Some spaces may enjoy shade for some or all the day. Your spot will probably be on cement tile, but interior spots could be on grass, gravel, cement or faux wood! Blankets or tarps are always good to protect your gear and the floor. Spots may not be perfectly square, for example, a 15x15 spot could be closer to 13x18, but it should still offer you the square footage. We appreciate your understanding as we try to accommodate this big party!

  4. Tents: They must be anchored to protect others and the beautiful buildings. Sandbags, water, something heavy to hold them down.

  5. During the event: there's free open wifi, a taco truck arriving at 9am, very nice bathrooms (in the 1900 building likely behind the food truck), and a pricey cafe at the Four Seasons Hotel in the hotel's main lobby. We'll have a nice raffle at 1pm at the Ritchey tent - sellers can buy a ticket for $5 at the Live in Peace tent or at the entrance to win prizes from Ritchey, Bont Shoes, Outer Shell, and SVMB.

  6. Social: Social anything before, during and after the party using #thebigbikeswap and tag @lipbikeshop

  7. Packing Up: Drive in after 2pm, or tell a volunteer before getting your car so we can open the driveway for your vehicle.

  8. Leave no trace: Please help us return to this amazing spot by taking home your trash, and leaving no trace. Bonus points for picking up the spot-marking masking tape! Our team has to physically haul all trash out of the circle, so please help us get home for dinner by taking your own trash!

  9. Return with an empty car: You don't have to take unsold stuff home! Consider donating what you don't sell. The nonprofit Live in Peace Bike Shop welcomes bikes, parts and accessories with lots of life left. Look for our white minivan near the exit/entrance by Woodland Ave, or take stuff to the Live in Peace space! We can even get you a tax receipt via email on the spot if we're not slammed.

This event is an important fundraiser for Live in Peace and its bike programs, and is brought to you in partnership with Ritchey and Haley Cycles. Your seller space and buyer entry fees go towards supporting the following:

  • Our apprentice bike mechanic program for East Palo Alto youth

  • Getting East Palo Alto youth on bikes and even to races

  • Providing bikes and affordable bike repair to those in need

On event day, don't text or email. You can call Andrew at 510-332-9081 or Fergus at 415-748-2941 with anything urgent.

Thanks again and see you Sunday!
